Assembly Speaker Bass on Californias Financial Crisis
July 7, 2009
(Sacramento) embly Speaker Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles), speaking with reporters this afternoon regarding the states fiscal situation, said shes disappointed and frustrated that a budget agreement has not been finalized. The Speaker said there could have been a budget deal days ago if the Governor had said yes to the package of budget solutions Democrats sent to the Governor and she said the Governor could have prevented the state from issuing IOUs by saying yes to the bipartisan cuts and savings passed by the embly. Speaker Bass also said shes growing concerned with the Governors apparent interest in fixing his legacy by proposing major policy reforms rather than dealing with the growing financial crisis. Heres more from Speaker Bass news conference in this embly Access video.
