(Sacramento) Californias severe water crisis is hurting people, businesses and the environment and immediate solutions to deal with the short and long term water needs of California must be finalized as soon as possible. (Sacramento) embly Speaker Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles), speaking with reporters this afternoon regarding the states fiscal situation, said shes disappointed and frustrated that a budget agreement has not been finalized. The Speaker said there could have been a budget deal days ago if the Governor had said yes to the package of budget solutions Democrats sent to the Governor and she said the Governor could have prevented the state from issuing IOUs by saying yes to the bipartisan cuts and savings passed by the embly. Speaker Bass also said shes growing concerned with the Governors apparent interest in fixing his legacy by proposing major policy reforms rather than dealing with the growing financial crisis. (Sacramento) – emblymember Julia Brownley (D-Santa Monica) is calling on her fellow legislators to reject the Governors efforts to wipe out the popular Cal Grant program. (Sacramento) During a capitol news conference following the Governors budget address to a special joint session of the State Legislature Speaker of the embly Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) said the legislatures Budget Conference Committee is reviewing every line of the Governors revised budget proposal. Speaker Bass went on to say while she agrees with many aspects of the Governors plan she doesnt believe its appropriate to eliminate the safety net and says the idea of building private prisons and selling state ets are long term solutions when short term answers are whats needed right now.
